6th Grade Identity Projects are Underway (A-Day)
Sixth grade art at James Martin is beginning an identity project! Students just learned about the elements of art (line, shape, color, value, texture, form, and space) and a few of the principles of design (rhythm, repetition, and unity) that apply to this artwork.
Students were instructed to create a piece of artwork using the principles of rhythm, repetition, and unity, and the elements of line and color with their hand print that identifies a core belief about themselves.

I walked students step-by-step through the process of drawing their hand print and the borders on their pages along with a word that describes who they are. Then I gave students examples of Zentangles. Zentangle is a form of art that combines lines and shapes to create wonderful and beautiful patterns. Students were to practice creating those and Tangles and encouraged to make up a few of their own. Here are a few of the early results:

These are just a few of the 37 pieces expected from this class. Stay tuned for final results! Students will be painting these using watercolors (they can use colored pencils and markers also).
