Whether you are a new Cougar or a returning one, here is a big ole COUGAR PRIDE from your art teacher, Mrs. Sabrina White.

A little about me, I am a graduate of the residential high school, the SC Governor's School for the Arts and Humanities in Greenville, SC. I obtained my Bachelor's of Arts degree in Studio Art (Drawing emphasis) and my Master's of Education both from Columbia College, Columbia, SC. I have been an exhibiting professional artist for the past seven years; however, my exhibition record dates back to 2003. I have exhibited at the Columbia Museum of Art, the Cornelius Arts Center, Meredith College in Raleigh, and other venues.

My next opportunity to exhibit in a gallery is tentatively scheduled to be at my alma mater, Columbia College, in 2017! Stay tuned for more information.

If you want to see my art sooner than that, I will be an art vendor at the Rosewood Arts Festival in Columbia, South Carolina on September 10, 2016! It's an all day festival that would make a great day trip for your family. Enjoy great art, poets and writers, and live music from the very best of the Columbia arts scene!

Well that's enough about me. This year is about YOUR child, MY student. Your child may be an aspiring artist or maybe they were just placed in art and you have no idea why. Maybe they want to try something new and broaden their horizons. Maybe they would rather be in dance (no dance this year...sorry). Well to put your mind at ease, my art curriculum is made to help EVERY child improve on their skill level. I can't promise they would all be accomplished artists at the end of the semester; however, I can promise that if they put in the work and effort, they will improve in their ability.

I start every student with the established academic foundations they would need to be successful in my art class and future art classes if they continue to pursue it in high school and beyond. I like to think of it as building a house. First you have to build the foundation--level it out and lay the bedrock. Then and only then can the building truly begin.

Now I'm going to need a copy of EVERY PARENT'S SIGNATURE SHEET. The best way for me to keep in contact with you on a daily basis is via email or through this blog. I would also need a contact number to reach you as well!

Well once again, WELCOME to a NEW YEAR at James Martin and I look forward to working with your child!

Mrs. White
