The Jubilee Festival of Heritage, Sept. 17, 2016, Columbia, SC

I attended the 38th Annual Jubilee Festival of Heritage in Columbia, SC this past weekend. It is a free outdoor festival that has a plethora of artisans, dancers, musicians, storytellers, and craftspeople that celebrate South Carolina's black history and culture. This takes place on the Mann-Simons Site off of Richland Street in Columbia.

The Mann family lived and thrived at this site and it is of utmost archeological importance to the history of Black people in this area. Here are some pictures from the event.

The main stage had choral groups performing throughout the day as well as dancers and comedic entertainment.

You could learn a lot about the history of the Mann-Simons site through the archeological markers throughout the grounds and the Historic Columbia station. There were also tours of the house during the festival. You can always schedule a tour of the house and grounds.

Check out the beautiful gourd art and masks of artist, Mary Moore Anderson of Winnsboro, SC!

Linda Wharton of African Arts had a wide array of African-inspired clothing and jewelry.

Ambada's Gift Shop of Augusta, GA also made an appearance! It was truly an event to come and be inspired!
